Surgical Instrument Cleaning and Care
Rinsing Surgical Instruments
by Beth Crafton on 02/11/10We have discussed the rinsing of surgical instruments with several facilities that are concerned about TASS Eye Infections. TASS has numerous causes, and most cases are attributed to contaminants on surgical instruments, resulting from improper or insufficient cleaning or other substances that enter the eye during or after surgery. Using a neutral pH non irritating enzyme detergents is important but it is essential to use a 4 enzyme eye surgical instrument cleaner that delivers all 4 of the enzymes need to remove all forms of proteinaceous bioburden. The eye surgical instrument cleaners used should be free rinsing. The term free rinsing indicates that the product will render a residue free eye surgical instrument cleaner.
